Join Us for the Ian Parsons Doubles Squash Courts Naming Ceremony, Saturday, April 27th at noon!

Invitation to the Naming Ceremony of the Ian Parsons Doubles Squash Court April 27, 2024 at noon in the doubles courts.

Dear Squash Community,

We cordially invite you to join us for the special naming ceremony of our Ian Parsons Doubles Squash Courts.

For those who may not have had the privilege of knowing Ian, he was a visionary who understood the importance of doubles squash and its benefits, especially for aging squash players.

Ian Parsons

His “Doubles Vision” project was a testament to his dedication, spanning over ten years of fundraising efforts, with a $250,000 contribution from the Pickering Squash Club to the City, planning, and construction. In 2009, his vision became a reality with the opening of the doubles courts. Ian Parsons was not only a beloved member of our club but also a true leader who left an indelible mark on our squash community.

Today, thanks to Ian’s vision, the doubles courts are bustling with activity and the game is growing. The Pickering Squash Club hosts various tournaments, leagues, OSDL matches, and fun events, including our upcoming Shin-Dig tournaments starting this week. We are all able to enjoy the game and its numerous health benefits because of Ian’s dedication and foresight.

Ian was not only a visionary but also a wonderful, caring, and compassionate individual who is deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Along with Ian’s family, friends, City Council and our members, please join us at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex (in the doubles court viewing area) on Sat. April 27th at 12:00 noon for this very special event in naming our very own Ian Parsons Doubles Squash Courts

Your presence would mean a great deal to us as we pay tribute to Ian’s legacy and celebrate his invaluable contributions to our squash community.

🏆🥇 Pickering/Parkway Women’s Squash Doubles League Semi-Final Match: Wednesday, April 10th 🥇🏆

Excitement is in the air as our Pickering/Parkway Women’s Squash Doubles League Team gears up for their semi-final match on Wednesday, April 10th, starting at 6:30 PM! It’s set to be an exhilarating showdown as our talented team takes to the courts to vie for victory.

A little background on the Ontario Squash Doubles League (OSDL): It’s a prestigious league that brings together some of the best squash talent in the region. This year, Pickering Squash Club proudly fields men’s teams in Division 3 and Division 4. However, we’ve also made waves by joining forces with Mayfair Parkway last fall to form a formidable women’s team in Division 2.

Despite being newcomers to the league, our Pickering/Parkway women’s team has showcased incredible skill and determination throughout the season. Finishing in first place ahead of established competitors like Cricket, Richmond Hill, and RCYC (Royal Canadian Yacht Club) demonstrates their hard work and dedication.

Now, with the home-court advantage on our side, we’re gearing up to face off against the 4th place team, RCYC, in the semi-finals. It’s bound to be an intense match, but no matter the outcome, our team will demonstrate heart, determination, and the spirit of camaraderie that defines the Pickering Squash Club.

We invite all members to come out and show your support for our Pickering/Parkway women’s team as they strive for victory in this crucial semi-final match. Let’s cheer them on to success!

Go Pickering/Parkway!

Parson’s “Shin-Dig” Doubles Tournament and Banquet Party

For those of you who have participated in this annual event, you will remember that it is an absolute blast!  Here is how it works…

The tournament will be played on the evenings of Wed. April 24th-Sat. April 27th (daytime matches on Sat.).  The first 32 players to sign up are guaranteed a spot so sign up asap!  Once the sign up is complete, teams will be made as even as possible so that all teams have a fair shot at winning the tourney and having their names on the big trophy.  We make the teams so you don’t need to sign up with a partner.

If you decide to sign up, please make note of the dates and have them available.  The draw and start times will be sent out the week prior to the tournament. The sign-up sheets will be posted soon on the boards outside the doubles courts (for the Shin-dig).

No doubles playing experience necessary!  I encourage all players to participate as this is a great opportunity to discover how much fun doubles squash can be.

Lastly, we all know that any fun event at the club requires a social night!  This year we have a groovy themed party event that you won’t soon forget!  No more boasting about your Saturday Night Fever dance moves, come show us what you’ve got!

Here are the details:
