We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Pickering Squash Club member Alan Cornish, who recently represented Canada at the World Masters Squash Championships in Perth, Australia, competing in the 75+ category.
And what a tournament it was!
After a tough opening match, Alan showed exactly what Masters squash is all about—resilience, determination and a refusal to give up. He fought his way through the consolation draw, winning his next four matches to earn a place in the semifinals.
The semifinal was a thriller. Alan battled all the way to a fifth game, ultimately taking the match 11–9 in the fifth to earn his place among the final four.
That meant Alan had fought his way from a difficult start to the World Masters semifinal, competing against some of the best players in his age group from around the world.
Although his tournament journey ended in the consolation final, the result takes nothing away from an outstanding week of squash—and an achievement worth celebrating.
Alan has a long history of competitive Masters squash, including an Ontario Masters Men’s 65+ Championship title in 2015, a third-place finish at the Ontario Open in 2018, and a second-place finish in the Over-70s singles at the World Racketlon/Masters Championships in Zurich. He has also represented Canada at international Masters events.
We love seeing our members continue to challenge themselves, compete at the highest levels and represent our squash community on the international stage.
Congratulations, Alan, on an incredible World Masters journey! 👏🎾
From Pickering to Perth—what a run! 🇨🇦🇦🇺
